Multisystemic Therapy for Child Abuse & Neglect (MST-CAN) offers an evidence-based treatment model of intensive therapeutic care that works on the understanding that it is best for your child to remain at home with your family if it is safe to do so.
We support families with children aged 0–17 years and collaborate closely with the Department of Communities & Justice (DCJ) to address any identified Risk of Significant Harm (ROSH) concerns. Our team consists of trained therapists who provide intensive, whole-of-family support within the family home or within community if required. We meet with families for a period of 6 – 9 months with at least three visits per week in the initial stages and during stepdown, visits will decrease.
We work collaboratively with families to identify their goals and support them to achieve lasting change. Our approach focuses on trauma‑informed therapeutic intervention for the family unit as well as for individual family members. We help families build on their existing strengths, develop effective parenting skills, and enhance their problem-solving abilities. We also support families in identifying and strengthening lasting networks of informal support through extended family and community connections, while addressing challenges such as drug and alcohol use and anger management. We provide 24/7 support to families whilst they are engaged with our service.
