We treasure our volunteers

Nothing is greater than the heart’s motivation to touch the lives of those who are less fortunate than ourselves.

It’s National Volunteer Week so we’re stopping to recognise the valued contribution of those who have sought to improve the quality of life for so many in our communities. We hope our volunteers know the selfless allocation of their time and effort does not go unnoticed.

This year’s theme “give a little – change a lot” represents the millions of volunteers who make a profound impact in their communities and on society, through giving a little time.

We have two programs that are heavily reliant on volunteers:

1. Community Visitors Scheme
Our fabulous volunteers visit people in aged care homes across the Northern Beaches who are lonely and may not have family or friends living nearby. They spend an hour once a fortnight bringing friendship, having a chat and sharing a cuppa.

Our one-on-one visiting scheme matches volunteers from the local community with residents who live in aged care facilities who have been identified as being socially isolated for various reasons and their quality of life would be improved by friendship and companionship. We place volunteers in most of the aged care homes on the Northern Beaches from Dee Why to Avalon.

2. Mary Mac’s Place
Mary Mac’s Place Woy Woy is a not-for-profit community kitchen where volunteers provide a hot lunch, washing and shower facilities and referrals to other services for the homeless and disadvantaged people in our community. It is an initiative of St John the Baptist Church, Woy Woy, and is managed and operated us, CatholicCare.

Mary Mac’s provide on average 80+ hot meals to the needy, daily Monday to Friday, as well as essential services like washing, shower facilities and a vital link to services such as Legal Aid, housing etc.

We thank our volunteers for serving in justice and love. CatholicCare is very grateful for their thoughtfulness and dedication.
