St George Bank donates much needed resources!

August 29, 2018

Our Naremburn & Northern Beaches Family Centres are delighted to be announced as a recent recipient of St George Bank’s Northern Sydney Community Boost Grant. Educational toys, food hampers, toiletries, food vouchers and a range of other needed resources have been donated, and eagerly welcomed!

Our Family Centres provide a range of services that directly address family wellbeing, relationship skills, and early childhood development. We work closely with families, individuals and young people who are experiencing difficulties and need additional support.

The donation from St George Bank will immediately improve our supported playgroups with new educational toys and resources. Our playgroups help children to explore and learn, and provide a place for parents to socialise and discuss their children’s development with a qualified worker. We have just started a playgroup specifically for young parents and have been pulling together odds and ends from other groups to resource this new initiative. “With this donation we hope to take these groups mobile so we can reach more young parents in our service areas and this will help enormously”, says Nicci Rowe, Family Centre Manager. “We are so delighted to have these new toys and resources and to offer a dedicated space to bond with their child and meet other parents”, she says.

The donation will also assist families who are struggling to make ends meet. Food hampers are always a great help to those in our local communities. Often times due to an unexpected expense, loss of job or illness, people find themselves with no food on the table. The hampers make a huge difference when things are tough for families. The donation of toiletries will go to help those who have found themselves homeless or couch surfing. Recent census data shows that homelessness in Northern Sydney is increasing and basic toiletries often come second to food when you are homeless or struggling financially. Toiletry hampers really help people to get back on their feet!

We are so grateful for the donation from St George Bank. Thank you!
