Mary Mac’s Place winter food drive – now on at Deepwater Plaza

June 4, 2018

Mary Mac’s Place Project is an initiative of St John the Baptist Parish, Woy Woy, and is managed and operated by CatholicCare. It’s open to anyone who is homeless, transient or needing a helping hand.

Deepwater Plaza in Woy Woy is partnering with Mary Mac’s Place again this year to facilitate the collection of non-perishable food items that will help those in need this winter.

Donated items go towards food hampers for Mary Mac’s companions – those experiencing hardship and financial difficulty in the local community.

In Australia, 1 in 10 people struggle with hunger and, to feed their families, many rely on local charities such as Mary Mac’s. Food insecurity – not knowing when you will get your next meal –  is a struggle for many people.

Mary Mac’s, located in Woy Woy, provides 80+ hot meals to local people Monday to Friday, as well food hampers, washing and shower facilities and a vital link to services such as Legal Aid, housing and more.

Catherine Pantehis, Coordinator of Mary Mac’s Place says, “Often members will visit purely for social contact as they live by themselves. Food donated during Deepwater Plaza’s food drive helps us stock our pantry for the next few months which means we can continue to provide this vital service.”

You can donate non-perishable food items from 1 June through to 30 June at Deepwater Plaza, outside Coles Supermarket.
